Charles D. Brown is the Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary of Fitch Ratings, and its parent company, Fitch Group, Inc. Mr. Brown is responsible for worldwide legal and regulatory affairs for Fitch, and management of the legal department. He also has served as both the Chief Credit Officer and the Chief Compliance Officer at Fitch and is a member of Fitch’s Executive Committee.

Prior to joining Fitch in 1998, Mr. Brown was a vice president and assistant general counsel, and chairman of the strategic planning council of Beneficial Corporation. At Beneficial, he was responsible for corporate and securities law matters, as well as strategic planning efforts for Beneficial and its subsidiaries, evaluating business unit profitability and growth, developing new products and services, planning and launching new business initiatives, and identifying and analyzing strategic alliance and acquisition opportunities. Before joining Beneficial, Mr. Brown was in private practice at the New York law firm of Dewey Ballantine from 1985 to 1994.

Mr. Brown earned a BS, summa cum laude, in economics and finance at Fordham University and a JD, cum laude, from Fordham University School of Law.
